With 80% of the audience men she wasn’t sure how her presentation about women would be received. To add to her angst this was one of her 401K clients and she hoped they would not be offended. Her topic of choice “5 Critical Financial Tips for Women” was by no means playing it safe and she worried she would lose the majority of the audience. But her worries were unfounded. Following her presentation the reception and reaction from the audience of both genders was overwhelmingly positive. She quickly realized a typical presentation about retirement or investing would have never generated the same results.
She had built a substantial practice before coming to me for coaching. She was truly living an extraordinary life spending many weeks each year traveling the globe with her family while maintaining a solid and lucrative practice. It really wasn’t the thought of making more money or reaching the next level of production that brought her to my coaching practice, it was her desire to focus more on helping women. Little did she realize she would quickly reap the benefits of both, helping women and business grow.
Her approach had always been highly personal and ideally suited to women. Her desire to provide value was clear from the moment she engaged in conversation but she lacked a brand, a clear and compelling message and focus. As she later shared “I feel like I was always talking around my message, now I go directly in to the heart of what I do and why and people really listen.”
Her newfound clarity, message and commitment to women began generating instantaneous results.
When networking, meeting new people or in conversation with former acquaintances she eagerly shared her story and compelling message which almost always inspired further interest. With each opportunity to share her message, the positive responses built her confidence in her direction and focus on women. While her concern about offending the men still posed a shadow of doubt she continued to forge ahead inspired by her passion and continued receptivity.
Her 401K presentation was the tipping point, while the men hesitated to pick up her information on the way into the presentation she saw they eagerly picked up her material on the way out. Following her presentation a number of men approached her talking about their desire to get the wives, daughters, mothers more engaged in their financial affairs. The women in the room, many of which were in upper management openly shared their lack of confidence and borderline embarrassment that they had not paid enough attention to their investments. And the HR director her primary contact was pleasantly surprised confirming their choice in providers.
Her choice in topics generated the results she was hoping for. Her message was heard loud and clear. Her passion was influential in getting participants to commit to appointments and potential referrals but more importantly she felt proud of her actions recognizing that women have been ignored way to long and truly need the extra commitment by advisors to help them become more financially engaged.
