Don’t you get bored doing the same old thing day after day, month after month, year after year? Granted routine is nice but maybe it’s time to really have some fun with your business. When you approach your business focused on what works for women, that need to be stodgy and impress them with your professionalism falls away. You don’t have to worry about not looking or acting like the most successful financial advisor, you can just be yourself. That’s what women want to see, they want to get to know the real you.
The more you add your personality into your business the more you will attract women and I guarantee you will have more fun as well. We have gotten so caught up into being professional, touting our experience and capabilities that we have lost a part of who we are, that part that clients really want to get to know.
There are many fun ways that you can start adding more personality into your business and start shaking things up a bit, for you as well as your clients and prospects. Birthday cards are an easy task and a great way to get started.
Having fun and making an impact does not have to cost money. Very few clients really appreciate the stodgy birthday cards you send, I mean really if you don’t send it will they miss it? Probably not, unless you make it fun.
A number of my clients have embraced my annual birthday card program. This is especially effective when you have a team or assistants that you can add in the picture. Each year take a fun picture of your team celebrating a birthday, this picture will be made into a picture card (similar to holiday family cards) with a fun saying about birthdays. These are the cards that go to your clients each year on their birthday and I promise they will smile and comment. In fact each year you will make a different card so that over time your clients look forward to getting your fun and personal birthday card. In fact if you miss sending one, expect to hear about it.
Here are some examples of how my Advisors have captured some personality in the birthday program:
- Birthday Hats: A picture where each member of your team is wearing a birthday hat . Everyone is helping to hold up a large sheet cake with Happy Birthday and candles sparkling. The message on the card could read “Wish we were enjoying your birthday cake with you. “
- Blowing the candles: Another option enjoyed by one of my coaching clients was a similar pose but they were all blowing out the candles the moment the picture was taken – “Making a wish that you have a wonderful birthday.”
- Themed cards: You can have pictures taken at different events throughout the year. One of my clients took a picture in front of a cow pasture (one of the advisors owned a farm) with a cow front and center. The message might be “Heard you were mooooving on”. In a picture like this you might consider wearing “farm” clothes rather than business attire.
- Formal Attire: A great picture can be taken during the holidays when everyone is dressed up. Instead of looking all boxed in with business suits a fun picture of everyone in formal wear can add a festive tone to the card.
These cards can be made very quickly and become a signature event for your team. Let your clients, especially the women start getting a glimpse of who you are as a person. This helps develop trust faster and certainly generates positive comments from your clients and prospects. Sometimes standing out has nothing to do with performance.
