3 Steps to Discover Your Real Mission as a Female Advisor

OK, so what is your REAL mission? Every female financial advisor I speak with wants to help people. They see this as their true calling and what makes them unique; but the real question, the source to unlimited success, is understanding WHO you really want to help and WHY?

These are not simple questions, and the answers require some digging and soul searching; but the results define you, propel you, energize you, and become your ultimate source of success.

When I ask women advisors who they want to help, most answer, “People who appreciate what I do.”

Duhhh! Nobody wants to work with someone who doesn’t listen or appreciate your value. So let’s get that out of the way and get on to what is truly important.

Step 1 to discover your “Real Mission”

Now let’s do this again; as you read this, stop, close your eyes and think. Think of all the people you have helped with their financial affairs; what would you say were the top 5 experiences. Write each one down and ask yourself:

  • Who were these people? (describe them)
  • What was happening in their lives?
  • What were their specific issues?
  • What was it you did for them?
  • Why was this experience so meaningful to you?
  • What did this experience remind you of from your own life and experiences?

Go through this exercise 5 times using your 5 top experiences.

Step 2 to discover your “Real Mission”

Look for a pattern.

  • What about those five experiences are similar?
  • Is it who the people are?
  • Their personalities?
  • Their issues or what was going on in their life?
  • Did you experience the same sense of satisfaction?

Did deep, think about each experience. Don’t try and do this in 15 minutes. This may be something you let percolate in your mind for days until the answer comes to you. When it does, it’s life-altering.

It’s as if, for the first time, you really understand who you are as a financial advisor and your true mission in life.

Let me help you a bit. When I look back on my own life, I see moments in time when I knew I was making a difference. Whether I was playing volleyball, building a women’s wealth practice, training advisors, or developing a team of advisors to promote the women’s market, I felt as if I was contributing to a greater cause. There were many patterns that defined my true purpose and mission in life.

Each experience focused on women, the age of the woman was not important, but the character of the woman was; these women all wanted to improve their lives and grow. In most cases, those I helped had lost confidence, were stuck, and needed the inspiration and direction to find their path.

I now know the root source of my mission and who I am destined to serve and help based on those patterns.

My mission is to inspire, motivate, and lead women to become the best that they can be in all aspects of their life, to recognize their true value, and to have the courage to become the woman they are destined to be.

When I apply this mission to my practice, it becomes more than just a statement. This has become my purpose in life. It is what guides, defines, and fulfills me. My energy and passion reach beyond just the women’s market, touching advisors of both genders.

Step 3 to discover your “Real Mission”

Based on your experiences and the patterns in your life, write your true mission. It doesn’t have to be pretty, eloquent, or grammatically correct.

This is for your eyes only, and it is your personal discovery as to what you were truly meant to do with your life and work as a financial advisor.

At this point, you should have an idea of who you really want to help and why. Look at the patterns which emerged from your answers and ask yourself are you doing everything you can to focus on what you have already unknowingly been working towards?

By finding your real mission, you are now able to set clear goals to get you on the path to your true calling; all you need to do now is follow it.
